Adult Training
Transform Your Leadership Journey
Adult leader training is vital to the success of Scouting programs and ensures that a fun, safe and fulfilling experience is provided to each Scout. Some courses may be completed online through my.scouting.org. All other courses are provided by the council on a regular basis.
Safeguarding Youth Training
Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) — is required for all adults who wish to camp or otherwise volunteer with youth and must be renewed every year. It is recommended all parents complete this training so everyone is assisting to keep our youth safe.
* Membership will be suspended at the end of the month in which a member’s Safe Youth Training (SYT) expires. Members will be notified via email prior to suspension.
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)
This one-and-a-half day course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for leaders interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities. BALOO training consists of an online pre-requisite component in addition to an overnight outdoor camping experience. Completion of this course is mandatory for a MINIMUM OF ONE adult on a Pack overnighter.
Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS)
Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Scouts BSA Troops in order to be considered “trained”.
Wood Badge
Wood Badge is known as the premier training course in Scouting America. Offered by a local council, it is held over a period of a week or two full weekends. It includes an outdoor camping experience.
Those who complete Wood Badge are presented iconic wooden beads as a symbol of their commitment to provide a quality Scouting program.
Youth Training
Training for Tomorrow's Leaders
Youth training equips our Scouts with the leadership skills and confidence they need to thrive, both within Scouting and in their everyday lives. These programs are designed to develop young leaders who are ready to take on challenges and inspire others.
National Youth Leadership Training
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide youth with leadership skills and experience that they can apply within their troops and in other situations requiring leadership of self and others.
NYLT is a six-day course that emphasizes hands-on learning in a fun, engaging environment. Through a blend of activities, presentations, challenges, discussions, and games, participants will develop confidence and leadership abilities while working together as a team.
The course content is designed to build leadership concepts progressively, using practical exercises to reinforce learning. Participants embark on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership, which brings the leadership lessons to life as they apply their skills throughout the course.
Den Chief Training
Den Chief Training is a specialized program designed to equip Scouts with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively assist Cub Scout den leaders. This training focuses on leadership development, understanding the Cub Scout program, and learning how to engage younger scouts in activities.
